#Hemiptera Spilostethus pandurus è una specie di insetto del sottordine eterotteri (chinches), la famiglia dei Lygaeidae , sottofamiglia Lygaeinae, genere Spilostethus . È un insetto polifago che si nutre di fiori e semi di molte piante e può causare danni alle colture. Questo insetto "rosso e nero" è caratterizzato da un punto bianco vicino al centro della membrana dell'ala e da un protorax con due strisce orizzontali nere. Ha due ghiandole dorsolaterali protoraciche che possono secernere sostanze repulsive ai predatori. Come molti altri Lygaeidae, si nutre preferenzialmente di piante della famiglia delle Asclepiadaceae dalle quali è in grado di ottenere glicosidi tossici per molti animali. È stato dimostrato che può rilasciare veleni attraverso le sue ghiandole e quindi respingere gli attacchi di uccelli, gatti e scorpioni. In Europa si nutre di altre piante tossiche come l'estramonio ( Datura stramonium ) e l'oleandro ( Nerium oleander ). La specie Spilostethus pandurus è stata descritta dall'entomologo italiano Giovanni Antonio Scopoli nel 1763. Questa specie è diffusa in quasi tutto il mondo, poiché si trova in Sud Africa, Europa meridionale e Cina.
