Narra la leggenda che San Colombano, rattristato poichè a causa delle piene della Trebbia non poteva guadare il fiume e così evengelizzare gli abitanti della zona, venne visitato dal diavolo che gli offrì la costruzione di un ponte in cambio dell'anima di chi per primo l'avesse attraversato. Il santo accettò e durante una sola notte il ponte venne costruito con l'aiuto di undici demoni che sostenevano le arcate, ma poichè essi erano di diversa statura l'opera risultò e risulta tuttora "gobba". A San Colombano il ponte piacque ugualmente e con l'inganno mantenne fede all'accordo: fece, infatti, passare sul ponte il proprio fedele orso
