Dopo aver letto sui giornali locali la notizia del ritrovamento di una carcassa di capodoglio spiaggiata nei pressi di Gallipoli, io e mio fratello, spinti anche dall'eccezionalità dell'evento, decidiamo di andare a cercarla per scattare qualche foto. Dopo aver camminato a lungo, finalmente scorgiamo la sagoma dell'animale che giace riverso sul bagnasciuga. Immaginarlo in vita solcare i mari e lottare con i calamari giganti a profondità abissali e vederlo giacere inerme ai nostri piedi fa impressione. Anche se l'animale potrebbe essere morto semplicemente di vecchiaia, vedendo mio fratello mentre lo osserva attonito con i suoi giovani occhi non riesco a fare a meno di pensare che ciò che ho dinanzi potrebbe essere la rappresentazione perfetta di un futuro in cui le nuove generazioni dovranno constatare con amarezza ciò che chi è venuto prima di loro gli ha lasciato in eredità.
