Il castello di Serralunga d'Alba, in provincia di Cuneo, è considerato uno degli esempi meglio conservati di castello nobiliare trecentesco del Piemonte. Collocato a sommità della collina di Serralunga, a dominio del caratteristico borgo e delle sue famose vigne. All'epoca in cui i discendenti di Bonifacio del Vasto, Bonifacio Minore e Ottone del Carretto, nel XII secolo, erano i signori del territorio, una torre sovrastava e difendeva il borgo di Serralunga. Dagli inizi del XIII secolo sono attestati anche un'area di pertinenza signorile, difesa stabilmente, e un nucleo abitativo a carattere rurale, che sotto la dominazione della famiglia Falletti grazie ai suoi meriti militari entrò in possesso della parte di feudo di Serralunga del marchese di Saluzzo e fece abbattere la torre difensiva per lasciar posto al castello. Il castello svolse nel territorio più che un ruolo militare una funzione di controllo delle attività produttive locali, come dimostra la sua stessa struttura estremamente slanciata e tesa a sottolineare in questo modo il prestigio della famiglia Falletti. La residenza fin dal Trecento constava di diverse parti, tra cui in particolare il Palacium, blocco compatto e allungato costituito da vaste sale sovrapposte, una torre cilindrica, che presenta i caratteri più innovativi dell'architettura fortificata del Trecento, una torre quadrata ed una cappella, piccolo ambiente con volta a botte e affreschi databili alla metà del XV secolo. Il maniero non fu mai trasformato in residenza di villeggiatura e quindi mantenne inalterata per secoli la sua struttura di roccaforte medievale. Nel secondo dopoguerra l'Opera Pia Barolo, istituita dagli ultimi discendenti della famiglia Falletti di Barolo, mise in vendita il castello che venne acquistato dallo Stato nel 1949: in quel periodo vengono avviati i lavori di restauro. Il salone è ornato dagli antichi affreschi della cappella votiva, affreschi della metà del XV sec. raffiguranti il Martirio di santa Caterina d'Alessandria, affiancato dalla figura di san Francesco sulla parete di fondo ed è sormontato dal simbolo dell'Agnus Dei.
