Gli antichi egizi rappresentavano il dio Thot con sembianze di amadriade ( Papio hamadryas ). Seppur distribuiti su di un areale abbastanza ampio, non sono un soggetto molto facile che ho dovuto inseguire per parecchio tempo... I maschi raggiungono quasi il metro d' altezza ed un peso di una ventina di chili: la caratteristica più evidente e più spettacolare è il folto mantello bianco-grigiastro con una vera e propria criniera sul collo e sulle spalle che arriva al bacino mentre la faccia è glabra ed il muso allungato. Tra le Hot Springs ed il fiume , da anni è oggetto di studio un interessante ibridazione tra madriadi e babbuini Anubis e quello della foto è uno di loro.
