La Chiesa di San Pietro Barisano è un esempio della tipica struttura architettonica dei Sassi: ha una facciata costruita in calcarenite ed un interno quasi completamente scavato. La chiesa risale all'anno mille ed era conosciuta come San Pietro in Veteribus. Successivamente, nel 1755, fu ristrutturata e realizzata l'attuale facciata che consta di tre portali, di cui il centrale più grande, due finestre ovali e un insolito rosone quadrilobato. Il campanile è staccato dal corpo della chiesa e poggia su una base di roccia naturale per ergersi su due livelli e si va assottigliando fino a terminare in una stretta cuspide.
