Alagna Valsesia dista da Milano, dalle due ore e mezzo alle tre ore di auto (dipende dalla zona di Milano e dall'ora di partenza, dal traffico, e dalla velocità alla quale si guida). E' un paradiso per gli sciatori essendo inserito nel circuito del Monte Rosa, ma per i fotografi è da visitare dalla fine primavera alla fine estate (soprattutto per le fioriture). Se si vuole camminare un po' salendo almeno sino al Rifugio Pastore, allora va benissimo anche in autunno inoltrato, ma prima delle nevicate, quando i vasti lariceti sono dorati e, come sfondo, può immortalare la parete sud del Monte Rosa.
