at 180mm, 1/800 f/5.6, ISO 800, hand held. Sabi Sands Game Reserve, South Africa. Specie: Panthera pardus

Tingana is a large dominant male leopard that resides in the Central North of Sabi Sands in the area of Elephant Plains, Arathusa, Chitwa Chitwa, Simbabilli and Djuma(see map) https://www.safaribookings.com/sabi-sands/map Certainly strong enough to have been able to hoist a zebra foal that would weigh more than he into a tree as we witnessed the aftermath of last year. He has one main rival, the even larger Anderson who roams from Northern Lodolozio into all the territory Tingana roams. According to our rangers the 2 have had confrontations with Anderson always the victor. The territory is large enough for both to mate with the many of the same females and there is no other males in the area that would take on Tingana. In this image Tingana has picked up the scent of a kill made by a young male. The kill was on the ground and the young male sitting on a termite mound which he used as a lookout. Once he saw Tingana coming he promptly bolted and as is the way of the bush Tingana claimed the kill. There was some nice warm light as the sun was setting.

nice shot and very interesting to know the sabi sands facts :-D
Mr Anderson was a boss already in 2015, I think he is starting to be old and will be chased in a few years.
about the shot it is beautiful but i suggest you full aperture to reduce background effect
thanks for sharing !!!

Thank you Guido, Francis, Enrico, Gaetano, and Dario : )

Mr Anderson(The Matrix) AKA The Ghost was born in 2008. So yes getting older but still the boss and as big as ever. As you say, a few more years in the Big Boy yet!
about the shot it is beautiful but i suggest you full aperture to reduce background effect

Thanks Steff, I agree I could have blown out the background more if I had time to think to change the aperture. Originally I was photographing young male Hosanna on a termite mound who had made the kill with just the sky as background so F5.6 no problems. Tingana came around on the right side below the termite mound but I was on the left(wrong side) of the vehicle. Only time for a few shots and forgot to think to change the aperture to reduce the background effect.
Ciao
Brian
