Venosa patria del grande poeta latino ORAZIO FLACCO. Venosa, Parco Archeologico, Complesso SS Trinità, Anfiteatro, Incompiuta Descrizione La colonia latina di Venusia è stata fondata nel 291 a.C. su di una collina dominante la valle dell'Ofanto. Dell'antico tessuto stradale, organizzato in isolati regolari lunghi e stretti secondo il modello delle città romane del III secolo a.C., si conservano tracce nel centro storico e in vicinanza della chiesa della SS. Trinità, intorno alla quale si estende il Parco Archeologico. Il Parco comprende le terme, la domus, i complessi residenziale ed episcopale, la chiesa incompiuta e, sul lato opposto della strada, l'anfiteatro. La particolare condizione dovuta all'assenza di sovrapposizioni edilizie sull'area urbanizzata, tra il periodo romano repubblicano e l'età medievale inoltrata, fanno del parco archeologico un unicum in Italia per quanto concerne le città esistenti le cui origini risalgono a prima di Cristo. Cresciuta alle spalle della chiesa vecchia, l'Incompiuta resta l'unico caso visibile di un fenomeno che normalmente si doveva verificare quando si costruiva una chiesa nuova sul luogo di una più antica: si lasciava in piedi la prima fino al momento in cui la nuova non era in grado di funzionare pienamente. La casa di Orazio è un edificio romano, nel quale in realtà sono stati individuati ambienti termali (di sicuro un calidarium); la facciata è ancora in mattoni a legatura reticolata, mentre a sinistra dell'ingresso è murato un bassorilievo.
