Galassia Vortice - M 51 è un oggetto astronomico del catalogo di Messier che comprende due galassie distinte, nella costellazione boreale dei Cani da Caccia. Questa è la prima galassia di cui fu scoperta la struttura a spirale. Nel 1885 Lord Ross ne fece un disegno dettagliato.
