Sorapis era un re e per lui nulla contava di più della felicità della sua piccola figlia, Misurina. Questa era una bambina piccola piccola, al contrario del padre che era un gigante. Il padre l'amava talmente tanto da accontentare ogni suo desiderio; ma la bambina, così facendo, cresceva sempre più viziata e arrogante. Ogni suo desiderio doveva essere soddisfatto nel più breve tempo possibile e se ella vedeva che tardavano nell'accontentarla, iniziava a piangere talmente tanto che il padre cedeva e si piegava a ogni suo volere. Un giorno la bambina espresse al padre il desiderio di avere lo specchio magico della Regina del Monte Cristallo. Sorapis sapeva che era una richiesta folle e che la Regina mai l'avrebbe loro concesso, ma decise ugualmente di provare a esaudire il desiderio di Misurina. Si recò dalla Regina, la quale, commossa dal grande amore del padre, decise di proporre un patto al Re: in cambio dello specchio, Sorapis si sarebbe dovuto trasformare in montagna. La decisione finale sarebbe spettata a Misurina: cosciente del pegno da pagare, avrebbe dovuto decidere se salvare il padre e rinunciare allo specchio o se sacrificarlo per i suoi capricci. Sorapis tornò dalla figlia e le spiegò quanto detto dalla Regina; ma l'egoismo della bambina era cresciuto talmente tanto che neanche l'amore per il padre l'avrebbe fatta ragionare. Prese lo specchio noncurante di ciò che sarebbe successo. Sorapis iniziò subito a trasformarsi in una montagna e crebbe così tanto e così velocemente che si innalzò subito sulla valle circostante. Misurina e lo specchio precipitarono giù dalla montagna. Sorapis, alla vista della morte della figlia, pianse talmente tanto da formare il lago su cui oggi si riflette e sotto cui riposano Misurina e il suo magico specchio.
