“Resurrezione della carne” è un affresco realizzato intorno al 1499-1502 da Luca Signorelli e suoi aiuti, appartenente al ciclo delle “Storie degli ultimi giorni” nella Cappella di San Brizio (Cappella Nova) del Duomo di Orvieto. Il riquadro della Resurrezione della carne è ubicato subito a destra dell'entrata. Due angeli danno fiato alle trombe che squillano impetuosamente, attorniati da nastri svolazzanti, nubi, angioletti monocromatici e due bandiere crociate, simmetricamente sventolanti, collegate alle canne degli stessi strumenti musicali. Così, in maniera assai originale, il Signorelli decise di rappresentare la Resurrezione dei morti: i risorti, in questa raffigurazione, escono da un terreno bianco e levigato come ghiaccio, invece di sorgere dagli avelli. L'artista realizzò gli scheletri rispettando i principi teologici, che indicano la reincarnazione dei defunti ad iniziare dalla pelle e dai muscoli raggiungendo quindi il pieno del vigore fisico, corrispondente a quello di un trentenne. All'estrema destra, in primo piano, è in corso una trasformazione, dove appare uno scheletro già reincarnato ma non ancora sufficientemente muscolato. Spicca sulla destra un nudo ripreso di schiena che parla con alcuni scheletri, mentre, poco lontano da lui, una coppia di giovani appena reincarnati pare ringrazino il Divino per la resurrezione. Un altro gruppo di ignudi, a sinistra, sta improvvisando una festosa danza. La parte alta della composizione, al di là della grande arcata e degli angeli, è occupata da un cielo aureo cosparso da pasticche in cera con rivestimenti in foglia d'oro, che vennero applicate a mano una dopo l'altra. Su queste pasticche furono riprese le impronte digitali ? attualmente conservate nel Duomo ? degli uomini che parteciparono all'applicazione delle stesse.
