A seguito di piogge intense nel mese di Novembre 2016 c'è stata un allerta generalizzata in varie province del Nord Italia, per il pericolo di esondazioni di fiumi e torrenti. Dopo la notte del 25 di Novembre, il fiume Ticino, non riuscendo a defluire regolarmente per il “tappo” al ponte della Becca dove c'è l'incontro con il Po, al di là del Ponte Coperto sulla riva destra, esonda in Borgo Basso, quartiere tipico di Pavia. Sotto lo sguardo vigile della statua della lavandaia, l'acqua lambisce i primi piami delle case che si affacciano sul corso d'acqua. Molte persone vengono evacuate e lo stato di allerta rimane alto fino al tardo pomeriggio del 26 novembre. Fortunatamente intorno alle 19 l'emergenza rientra e l'ondata di piena inizia il lento deflusso senza causare troppi danni, lasciando comunque spazio ad un panorama suggestivo.
