L'Armadillidium vulgare è un crostaceo dell'ordine degli Isopoda. È conosciuto con alcuni nomi comuni: #porcellinoditerra, porcellino di Sant'Antonio, onisco, pirigungia, “verme cocolo”, Caramattino). Per sopravvivere, questo animale necessita di umidità, questi animali si muovono soprattutto di notte per andare alla ricerca di cibo: vegetali ed animali morti. È possibile trovarli in montagna come in pianura; di giorno si nascondono sotto terra, al di sotto di sassi o in tron…chi marcescenti. Quando riposano o quando sono disturbati, si appallottolano formando una sfera. La dimensione varia dai 5 ai 18mm nei casi piu' grandi. Qui riporto il momento nel quale il nostro Armadillidium si schiude e prende la forma normale. Fotografato a mano libera ad 1 cm dal suolo misura dell'esemplare circa 8/10mm steso.
