11 luglio Il giorno dove abbiamo riposto molte speranze è arrivato. Il tempo è abbastanza buono, vento ce n'è poco, la prenotazione per la nostra escursione è stata fatta da tanto e tutto sembra volgere al meglio, ma sappiamo tutti che quando si parla di animali in natura non si può mai dire. Il RIB (gommone 12 posti) è pronto e io e mia moglie saliamo a bordo dopo aver indossato grosse tute termiche forniteci dall'organizzazione. Aspettiamo gli altri…….anzi no incredibile, ma vero, siamo solo noi due più il pilota e la zoologa. Si parte a tutta velocità il fiordo è lungo. Il mare è davvero calmo. Dopo un quarto d'ora di navigazione ecco in lontananza si intravede una balena che esce e si immerge di nuovo. Impossibile fotografarla è lontanissima e nei nostri pensieri i dubbi aumentano, chissà se riusciremo a vederle da vicino ci domandiamo. Avanziamo ancora ed ecco improvviso uno soffio (può arrivare fino a 3 metri di altezza) e poi un altro e poi ancora, siamo circondati da megattere che con il loro movimento fluido mostrano le loro enormi pinne. Siamo così vicini che faccio fatica a far stare dentro la coda nella foto. Siamo soli in tutta la baia, l'unico rumore (il pilota ha spento il motore per non disturbarle) è quello degli sbuffi delle balene e il click della mia macchina. Intorno si intravede in lontananza la costa con casette dai tetti colorati immerse nel verde e montagne innevate, nel fiordo solo qualche peschereccio lontanissimo. Lo show continua ed è incredibile con quanta elasticità si muovono questi mastodonti del mare, sembrano leggerissime e invece sappiamo che pesano mediamente 300 quintali e sono lunghe dai 12 ai 15 metri. Il tempo passa velocemente e le due ore insieme a loro sono terminate dobbiamo rientrare, ma la sensazione è che mai scorderemo questa enorme emozione. NO CROP
