La statua di San Pietro in cattedra. Una bellissima scultura bronzea dell' Apostolo Pietro, che secondo la tradizione fu realizzata dal pontefice S. Leone Magno (440-461) dopo l'incontro con Attila (452). riutilizzando il bronzo della statua di Giove Capitolino, il simulacro più sacro per gli antichi Romani. Fu dunque ritenuta a lungo una statua bronzea risalente al V secolo. Attualmente prevale tra gli storici l'opinione che sia stata realizzata molto probabilmente nel XIII secolo, forse da Arnolfo di Cambio e forse su un modello paleocristiano. Molto probabilmente la più amata, venerata, la più nota nel mondo cristiano è alta quasi due metri, non è stata lavorata a tutto tondo, viene apprezzata soprattutto da davanti, nel gesto di benedire con la mano destra, mentre con la sinistra tiene le chiavi del Regno dei cieli, ammirando colui al quale Gesù, aveva dato incarico di fondare e guidare la sua chiesa. Una delle tante meraviglie che si trovano dentro la Basilica di San Pietro.
