Roma 2011 capodanno. Il Reverendo Everett Jenkins e il suo gruppo Gospel dagli USA. Serata memorabile. Nel giorno di Natale dopo essersi esibiti in Vaticano davanti al papa, ripeterono al capodanno nella chiesa maggiore di zona dove mia sorella era responsabile dalla Caritas e organizzatrice della serata. Uno spettacolo meraviglioso. Incredibile quanta energia sprigionava da un tipo così "corposo". Nota curiosa... In quella chiesa ogni capodanno si organizza un cenone a pagamento (20 euro) per 120 persone ("zoccolo duro" dei donatori e il massimo adeguato alla capienza dei locali e l'incasso finanzia le attività parrocchiali, caritas ecc...) e quella sera dopo lo spettacolo, avvenuto al termine della funzione religiosa, i "paganti" assieme al gruppo Gospel dovevano recarsi al cenone, sennonché il prete, "travolto" da passione, quella sì, mistica, urlò "e adesso tutti sotto al cenone!", tralasciando di avvisare che era soltanto per i prenotati (e paganti) e il gruppo Gospel. 600 persone vi si riversarono, spazzando via tutto in 5 minuti. Quando il gruppo Gospel (intrattenutosi con il parroco) arrivò, gli organizzatori cercarono di recuperare qualcosa da fargli mangiare, anche cucinandolo sul momento, ma ormai... Uno strascico di lamentele da quelli che avevano prenotato (e pagato) e trascorso un capodanno magrissimo, fu inevitabile. Il marito di mia sorella (uno dei maggiori donatori e supportivo in generale della parrocchia) occupato a distribuire bevande, sperimentò il capodanno a digiuno... Il Reverendo Jenkins morì d'infarto pochi giorni prima del Natale successivo, mentre si preparava a tornare in Italia per esibirsi davanti al papa e (forse) nella parrocchia del parroco tanto buono, ma debole in aritmetica e nelle logiche umane. Dopotutto sempre troppo terrene...

Purtroppo molti dei paganti parecchi con prole, appurando che il cibo elaborato era terminato in pochi minuti, rimaneva qualche pezzetto di pizza qua e là, erano andati a cercare un cenone altrove anche per non far fare digiunare i figli e i dolci rimasero orfani di mangiatori... Io ne avevo mangiato appena per tre... e ce ne stavano per rifornire tre pasticcerie.
