#StorieDiPiume #Verde #Wild VERDONE (Carduelis chloris) Ordine: Passeriformes Famiglia: Fringillidae Il Verdone è un piccolo e tozzo passeriforme molto adattabile presente in tutta Italia e in Europa, fino alle coste dell'Africa del Nord e al Medio Oriente. Lungo circa 15 centimetri e dal peso che difficilmente supera i 30 grammi, la sua apertura alare di 25-28 centimetri non fa di lui un buon volatore: preferisce passare di ramo in ramo e muoversi solo per nutrirsi. Di colore complessivamente verde e oliva con sfumature gialle e oro, ha le punte delle piume dorsali più scure e una marcata linea gialla su ali e coda. Il suo becco, conico e massiccio è color carnicino-biancastro, poco più chiaro delle zampe. La femmina si distingue dal maschio per una modesta opacità dei colori, mentre i giovani sono rigati di bruno. Questa specie particolarmente vivace e socievole vive in piccoli gruppi anche misti a cardellini e altri Fringillidi, e predilige gli habitat con una ricca vegetazione come frutteti, parchi, giardini e tutti i luoghi con molti alberi e siepi dove raggiunge un mimetismo quasi perfetto. Non disdegnano le zone urbane, purché appunto sia presente vegetazione. La maggior parte degli esemplari sono stazionari, mentre altri svernano in aree più calde per preparasi alla riproduzione che avviene tra primavera ed estate con un massimo di due covate da 4-5 uova azzurrine o puntinate di rosso scuro in nidi di rami e muschio posti sugli alberi. La femmina esegue la cova di circa due settimane mentre il maschio si adopera per procurare semi e cereali – che costituiscono la dieta principale di questa specie –, bacche, piccoli insetti o larve.
