The return from Martinopoli sent on September 17, 2012 (19:17) by Rubacolor. 26 comments, 1714 views. [retina]

con Nikon TC-20E II, 1/50 f/11.0, ISO 400, tripod. Specie: Alcedo atthis

Spectacular sharpness. Also notable is the texture of the feathers. Shooting at the TOP.

your HD is better than a rented movie: you sit in a chair, and I will open the HD flavors for an hour and a half without commercial breaks! :-D

on dark backgrounds can hurt to remove the noise

I re-insert to add something dictated by my (very low and very much in the making:-D) experience ;-)

what you see here is not noise but a stramaledettissimo full effect of artifacts that comes out when converting to jpeg tiff with a dark background homogeneous and almost uniform. conversion digests badly the slight variation in color and generates this effect "pitted". Steal expensive is not you who are not able to remove the noise on dark backgrounds:-D, is that it simply is (almost) impossible. I bet that the 99.9999999999999999% TIFF 1200 px is perfect ;-) I added this feedback just because I got bumped several times in the macro and there has never been so absolutely not to beout this effect by converting to jpeg, from tiff to 1200 px long side very clean (with dark backgrounds and very homogeneous).
