La pittoresca cittadina della Camargue, Saintes Maries de la Mer si trasforma e si ammanta di un fascino senza tempo grazie al Pellegrinaggio dei Gitani. Gitani da tutti gli angoli del mondo si radunano qui, il 24 e 25 maggio per venerare la loro patrona, Santa Sara la Nera, la cui statua e le cui reliquie sono custodite nella cripta della chiesa. Per tutto il periodo che precede la festa (una decina di giorni), le strade della città si riempiono di gitani colorati e pittoreschi che tornano qui non solo per le funzioni religiose ma anche per incontrarsi, festeggiare e battezzare i figli nella chiesa delle Saintes Maries.
