Not sure what this bird is. Can anyone help ID it? Found in Salem, Oregon USA. Eats grubs. Thanks, Wally

Hello Wally, Compliments on your gallery! When it comes to identifying this bird, I might have found something interesting.. I had to search for it, since I am not that familiar with the North American species as with most of the European birds, but I think that I've found a good "contestant"! It could be a Red-Winged Blackbird. Only males have a striking black plumage with red parts near the wing. Females look very different and are brownish and heavely streaked, and they often have a light "eyebrow". The bird in your picture looks a lot like such a female. The scientific name of this species is "Agelaius Phoeniceus". On the site of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (allaboutbirds.org) is a lot of information on this species and North American birds in general. Although I am not 100% certain, I think (and hope!) that it's a good guess. Good luck on your photography and kind regards, Hans
