La meravigliosa Pieve di San Pietro del XII secolo, emerge nel borgo di Gropina come una delle più belle ed importanti chiese romaniche toscane. Il nome deriverebbe dalla parola etrusca KRUPINA, ossia popolo, paese. Queste zone venivano scelte dagli etruschi per via della presenza di diversi corsi d'acqua tra cui l'Arno, ma anche perchè queste terre erano ricche di colline che facilitavano gli avvistamenti di eventuali attacchi nemici.A quell'epoca qui sorgeva un antico tempio pagano dedicato a DIANA. La pieve si trova sull'antica CASSIA VETUS (l'attuale Arezzo-Firenze) ed è una delle chiese più antiche della Toscana, è stata citata per la prima volta da Carlo Magno in occasione della sua donazione alla diocesi di Nonantola nel 780 d.C.
