Si tratta di piccoli lepidotteri alquanto primitivi, dai colori e dalla forma decisamente singolare. Ad occhio nudo difficilmente si possono notare, molto spesso si confondono con diversi tipi di moscerino. Con antenne misura meno di 1 cm.
