Henry David Thoreau fu un filosofo, scrittore e umanista che visse nel XIX. Tra le sue opere più importanti vi è sicuramente "Walden - Life in the wood". C'è voluto circa un secolo perché venisse riconosciuto come uno dei padri (insieme al suo amico e mentore Ralph Waldo Emerson) del "Rinascimento Americano". Facendo una sintesi dei concetti da egli espressi, in poche parole, sperimentando su se stesso una vita (seppur per un periodo limitato) lontana dall'urbanizzazione, dimostró (a ridosso tra l'altro della "Rivoluzione Industriale") quanto ci stessimo allontanando dai valori fondamentali della vita. La distanza tra uomo e Natura non era mai stata cosí tanta. I valori fondamentali, tra cui certamente l'essenzialitá stavano sfumando sino a dissolversi. La premessa è dovuta, perché per quanto si possa vivere nel compromesso quotidiano e cittadino, non può di certo mancare il contatto con i valori essenziali, quelli della Natura. Elementi che oggi, possono essere ripresi ed espressi utilizzando il media fotografico. A tal proposito la forza e la bellezza di una fotografia per il sottoscritto non si limitano ad un istante preciso o comunque ad un semplice frame. È un viaggio che parte da molto più lontano. Fatto di esplorazione, scoperta, conoscenza, rispetto, esperienze di vissuto, amore e soprattutto d'integrazione con ciò che si sta ammirando. Tutto questo forgia la sostanza, accende la scintilla e da un'anima a quello che proponiamo. È un puzzle che si compone poco per volta per unire e raccontare le peculiarità di un territorio, la sua essenza. La potenza della Corrente del Golfo che genera tempeste dall'Atlantico, i fiumi ricchi di torba che irrompono sulle spiagge del remoto Ovest scozzese, il lavoro incessante di erosione da parte delle maree,i disegni sulla sabbia, le alghe e i colori dell'acqua, di un turchese che non riesci a collocare in questo contesto geografico, ma che di fatto ne rappresenta un importante tratto distintivo.
