Se vi capita di andare a Parigi, non dimenticate di fare quattro passi in questa via, considerata una delle più antiche vie della capitale francese. Qualche cenno storico:La strada in epoca romana era un viottolo che collegava Lutetia a Fontainebleau. E' stato aperto nel 1202 e l'origine del suo nome si riferisce alla vecchia chiusa detta di Garland, che costeggiava la proprietà della famiglia di Garland, favorita del re Luigi VI, che possedeva un podere coltivato a vite. La documentazione fiscale dal 1292 riporta che la strada era molto commerciale, ed ospitava la rappresentanza di 16 diversi mestieri Oggi, è una strada molto frequentata, piena di bistrot e ristoranti tipici. Se vi trovate a passare per la rue Galande, nel V arrondissement, alzate lo sguardo verso la facciata del numero 42, potrete osservare un bassorilievo medievale che risale al XIV secolo. L'opera proverrebbe dall'antica e vicina chiesa di Saint Julien le Pauvre e rappresenta la leggenda di Saint Julien l'Hospitalier che uccise accidentalmente suo padre e sua madre. Divorato dai sensi di colpa e per cercare di espiare il delitto compiuto, cominciò ad aiutare i poveri e i viaggiatori ad attraversare il fiume. Una notte in cui il mare era particolarmente agitato, Saint Julien trasportò un lebbroso: la leggenda vuole che si trattasse di Cristo che era venuto per dargli il perdono divino.
