Villa Sommi Picenardi è immersa nella campagna cremonese a circa 25 km da Cremona e deve il proprio nome, così come quello del Comune e alcune località limitrofe ai Sommi Picenardi, nobile e antica famiglia lombarda. Il nucleo più antico è costituito dagli edifici della parte sinistra, zona detta “il castelletto” con l'antica torre alla ghibellina di probabile origine medievale; nel 1526 tutta la proprietà passa definitivamente ad Antonio Maria Picenardi e alla sua famiglia che la manterrà fino agli anni '50 del '900. Dopo aver superato il ponte levatoio, si entra nel grande cortile principale della villa, con i due grandi torrioni principali che in simmetria con gli altri situati in fondo ricordano l'antica residenza castellana a scopi di difesa; ai lati e di fronte si trovano le costruzioni principali della villa.
