Obiettivo : SAMYANG 8MM f3.5 La Chiesa di San Francesco Saverio, detta ''La Missione'', fu costruita per volonta' dell'ordine dei Gesuiti tra il 1665 e il 1678. L'interno si presenta a navata unica su una pianta a sala rettangolare e c'è una notevole abbondanza di elementi architettonici (colonne, paraste, trabeazione, frontoni spezzati, fregi in stucco) e di elementi pittorici che a tratti si fondono e si confondono: questa straordinaria decorazione pittorica fu realizzata tra il 1675 e il 1679 dall'architetto, pittore prospettico e figurista Andrea Pozzo (fratello laico della Compagnia di Gesù). Dal lavoro fatto a Mondovì hanno origine le opere del Pozzo compiute in età più matura nella chiesa di Sant'Ignazio e in quella del Gesù a Roma, nella chiesa dell'Università, nel Palazzo Liechtenstein e nel Collegio dei Gesuiti a Vienna. Nella chiesa della Missione Andrea Pozzo interpreta la copertura piatta del soffitto trasformandola in una finta cupola aperta verso il cielo e riprendendo gli elementi architettonici dell'interno: si tratta di uno spettacolare esempio di pittura prospettica.
