Verso la fine del 1993 Ayrton Senna, su una Mc Laren MP 4/8 con livrea anonima e motorizzata Lamborghini, eseguì una serie di test all'Estoril (precedentemente Hakkinen ne aveva svolti altri a Silverstone) rimanendo estasiato dalle potenzialità della vettura e per questo motivo chiese di poter terminare la stagione con la vettura così equipaggiata. Le trattative tra Mc Laren e Lamborghini risultarono però più difficili del previsto ed alla fine non venne raggiunto nessun accordo... Così quei test rimasero un piccolo e quasi sconosciuto capitolo a parte. L'anno successivo Ayrton cambierà Scuderia approdando alla Williams... con la quale incontrerà, domenica 1° maggio 1994, un funesto e fatale destino durante le prime fasi del Gran Premio di San Marino sul circuito di Imola...
