La zona attorno al lago è idealmente divisa in due parti. La prima è caratterizzata e sfruttata a fini agricoli con presenza di campi coltivati a grano, foraggio, diversi orti e alberi da frutto. L'altra parte è ancora demaniale e ricca di Querce, Biancospino, Alastri. La zona che costeggia il lago è dominata da Salici e da Canne da palude. Il lago appartiene alla rete dei parchi accessibili: quei parchi che favoriscono, mediante apposite strutture, la fruizione del sito anche ai diversamente abili. La fauna è ricca di specie di piccola taglia. Lepri e Conigli sono presenti nei dintorni del lago, sempre attenti ai diretti predatori come Donnole, Martore ma soprattutto Volpi. La Testuggine palustre siciliana (Emys trinacris) è presente in buon numero, come gli anfibi Discoglosso (Discoglossus pictus) e la Raganella.
