Il palazzo del parlamento, inaugurato nel 1883, è ispirato all'architettura greca. Qui si riuniscono le due camere del parlamento dell'Austria, il Nationalrat e il Bundesrat. Il magnifico palazzo del parlamento fu costruito tra il 1874 e il 1883 sulla Ringstraße, il grande anello che circonda il centro storico, costruita dopo l'abbattimento delle mura che circondavano Vienna a partire dal '300. L'architetto, il danese Theophil von Hansen, lo fece costruire in stile greco. Due imponenti rampe conducono al portico, modellato su quello dei templi greci, che si trova in posizione rialzata rispetto alla Ringstraße. Al centro del timpano, sopra il portico, è rappresentato l'imperatore Francesco Giuseppe che consegna la costituzione - quella del 1861 in cui fu concessa l'istituzione del parlamento. Tra il 1861 e il 1883 le due camere del parlamento, "Herrenhaus" e "Abgeordnetenhaus", si erano riunite in due edifici provvisori separati, la prima seduta nel nuovo palazzo sulla Ringstraße, sede di entrambe le camere, ebbe luogo il 4 dicembre 1883. All'interno del vasto complesso si trovano le sale in cui si riuniscono i parlamentari, gli appartamenti di Stato splendidamente decorati, e le sale conferenza.
