I can absolutely guarantee that I had NO idea that the field had rapeseed in it as I could not see anything! The little BeFree tripod kept messing me around, the muddy track I was walking on was, well, muddy and I could not focus. I also had NO idea that the Milky Way was in frame, the view on the screen was very poor and so I quickly turned the tripod the other way where I took sharper more brightly lit shots looking towards the city, but with the clouds coming in. I also shot at f3.2 but that showed no improvement in sharpness. The little tree on the horizon can also be seen in my return rapeseed shot in the sunshine, some six hours later! |

A beautiful shot of the night sky and a field of rapeseed! That's got to be a pretty unique image, Tim! Wonderful! I do find it incredibly difficult to attach my camera to the BeFree in darkness..... Ann :)) |

I thought it was remarkably well rescued, Ann, from the RAW, if you think about what I originally told you. The light on horizon is from Southampton. Imagine if I'd done it properly, with decent tripod - but I wasn't going to carry such on a 12 mile walk. The stars was just a try it and see! I do have to move this to Landscape section, by Juza guidelines, but it'll be up for much longer where it is and I'll move it before Juza awakes! |

Indeed! It's an impressive image - admirable both in the taking and the processing! I'm really going to have to 'try it and see' with the stars one of these days! |

The genre really is a challenge - not just the framing, even with bright f2.8, I could only see the brightest part of the sky and first shots had way too much foreground. Then, levelling, even with Virtual Horizon, with ball/socket, you release to alter that and the whole framing changes. Then, there's colour balance. Manual focusing is an impossibility, even with a fast lens with an infinity marker on it! Not trying to put you off, mind you... (!!) BUT, the lens I used is what the specialists use, so I know it has the potential. |
