Esiste un progetto in Sudafrica per la protezione di questi enormi "tacchini", che si trovano ormai sempre più raramente razzolare in coppia, spesso seguendo le piste. Sono lenti e molto grandi, e soprattutto troppo confidenti con gli uomini, il che ne sta decretando, purtroppo, la scomparsa. IL maschio, per corteggiare la femmina, raccoglie con il becco dal terreno dei piccoli oggetti o sassi che porta alla compagna. Dolcissimo.
