Sede della Provincia e della Prefettura di Varese, Villa Recalcati è una delle più significative testimonianze di architettura suburbana settecentesca italiana, edificata su un'area digradante verso il lago di Varese. Il suo primo nucleo fu eretto nella seconda metà del Seicento, quale villa di campagna della nobile famiglia milanese Recalcati.
