All'ordine dei Raphidioptera appartengono insetti considerati ''fossili viventi'', a causa della grande somiglianza tra i primi rappresentanti dell'ordine (apparsi circa 140 milioni di anni fa) e quelli attuali. Si tratta di insetti predatori che si nutrono soprattutto di afidi e acari, mangiandone in gran quantità.
