Tellaro - Dal punto di vista del polpo - Molto tempo fà agli albori del 1600 Tellaro non era che una roccaforte che serviva a proteggere un paese più a monte, Barbazzano, paese ricco e ambito dai pirati di quell'epoca per la notevole produzione di olio di oliva insostituibile e di molteplici impieghi. La difesa era costituita oltre che dalle aspre coste di difficile approdo anche dal campanile dell'attuale chiesa sul mare, che in caso di pericolo, con i rintocchi di chi era di vedetta dava l'allarme. I pirati Saraceni erano di casa per tentare attacchi e depredare il ricco paese. Una notte tempestosa che nulla faceva presagire un attacco, il paese dormiva tranquillo, compreso l'uomo che doveva stare di vedetta. Ma proprio in quella notte i pirati con a capo Galla D'Arenzano avevano programmato l'attacco. I Saraceni stavano per sbarcare quando improvvisamente le campane iniziarono a suonare, suonare. Il paese udito l'allarme si precipitò alla difesa. I pirati furono ricacciati; Tellaro era salvo. Ma chi aveva suonato la campana? Chi aveva dato l'allarme? Corsi presso il campanile, i Tellaresi scorsero un grosso Polpo il quale, emerse dal mare ed attaccatosi alla fune delle campane aveva svegliato l'intero paese. Fu così che da quel giorno il Polpo sotto il campanile simboleggia il Paese Tellaro in una stretta aderenza con il mare.
