Lo ha rivelato una ricerca pubblicata in esclusiva dal quotidiano inglese Independent, dalla quale è emerso che l'Egitto si è classificato 22esimo su 22 Stati arabi studiati per la qualità di vita delle donne. Le donne possono dormire sonni più tranquilli persino in Iraq e Arabia Saudita ma non in Egitto, spesso identificato dagli europei come uno degli Stati arabi più occidentalizzati: qui il genere femminile è invece ancora escluso e destinato a subire violenza fisica, mentale o sessuale da parte di quello maschile. L'Egitto è anche un Paese in cui ancora 27,2 milioni di donne subiscono la mutilazione dei genitali. Secondo l'Unicef, il più alto numero all'interno dei confini di un solo Paese.
