Il Macaone: la più grande farfalla diurna La famiglia delle Papilionidae annovera anche il Macaone, una bella farfalla presente in Italia con nove specie differenti. Il Macaone vive nei prati e vicino ai corsi d'acqua dell'Europa,[...] La famiglia delle Papilionidae annovera anche il Macaone, una bella farfalla presente in Italia con nove specie differenti. Il Macaone vive nei prati e vicino ai corsi d'acqua dell'Europa, fino all'Asia e Giappone e Stati Uniti. In Italia lo troviamo nelle campagne e in prima collina. La riconosciamo facilmente dalla sua grandezza, quasi 8 centimetri di apertura alare, e grazie alla sua bella livrea. Come le altre farfalle il Macaone inizia la sua vita da bruco, con un corpo verde ed anelli circolari bianchi maculati di macchie gialle. Il bruco, durante questo periodo, si nutre di Apiacee (finocchio e carota) e dispone di un particolare organo carnoso in grado di emettere un aroma maleodorante per allontanare i predatori. Durante la fase di crisalide, il Macaone non è racchiuso all'interno di un bozzolo ma appeso direttamente ad un ramo, al quale si tiene saldamente ancorato tramite dei filamenti sericeri. Da adulta il Macaone è la più grande farfalla diurna, le ali sono abbellite da bellissime bande gialle e nere, una vistosa fascia frastagliata di colore blù e due macchie rosse poste sulle ali posteriori.
