La credenza popolare vuole che la figura de SU TRAIGOLZU si manifestava tra la mezzanotte del 14 e il 15 agosto. La sua figura oscura e misteriosa incute terrore, trascina delle lunghe e pesanti catene che producono un suono lugubre e tetro. Si dice che con le sue catene trascini le anime, e che nessuno lo voleva guardare perché alla fine delle anime da lui trascinate rivelasse, chi da li a un po, diventasse sua vittima, cioè defunto. Veniva usato il suo nome “SU TRAIGOLZU” per spaventare e far rientrare a casa i bambini, “corri a casa se no ti prende su traigolzu” spaventati dal rumore delle catene che trascina. Gli elementi forniti dagli anziani di Sindia, hanno permesso di riprodurre fedelemte la maschera de “SOS TRAIGOLZOS”, che a detta di alcuni sfilasse nei giorni canonici del carnevale, fino agli anni 1920-30 ed è stata ricostruita nel 2011 grazie ai racconti dei più anziani. Così composta: Su Gabbanu, una sorta di lungo cappotto in orbace di colore nero provvisto di cappuccio che ne cela il volto di chi lo indossa, viene stretto alla vita da una “corda” ricavata dalla coda di cavallo, oppure in canapa intrecciata. Sotto il Gabbano si indossano pantaloni di velluto o fustagno nero, i “Gambali” in pelle, e “Sos Cosinzos”, scarponi artigiaanali fatti a mano e “Bullittados” cioè chiodati alla suola. Infine l'elemento che caratterizza la figura e le movenze è la lunga e pesante “Catena” che trainata produce un rumore sinistro, udibile da molto lontano.
