Il pian di Flavona ospitava in passato una meravigliosa foresta di larici, nel secolo scorso furono tutti abbattuti per usarne il legno nella costruzione delle traversine per la nascente ferrovia del Brennero, alcuni esemplari come quello fotografato furono tagliati e poi abbandonati, questo probabilmente per il modo inconsueto in cui era cresciuto, con le venature del legno avvitate che ne avrebbero reso difficile la lavorazione.
