Holocaust Memorial Day (always have a camera) sent on January 28, 2017 (0:30) by Timk2. 12 comments, 1283 views. [retina]

at 70mm, 1/250 f/4.0, ISO 800, hand held.

Attaching linen leaves with personal wishes and prayers written onto the Holocaust Memorial Tree planted ten years ago, on a very wet and cold and windy afternoon, attended by the Bishop of Salisbury and the Mayor and around 40 people. I'd walked across town to pick up a parcel from an online order and on the way back, that old notion that once you've done some photojournalism for a local newspaper kicked in, when seeing more and more people with these VIPs congregating in a public park, I wanted to know more - and to get photographs! The new chief photographer of the paper, Tom, was there and we got talking after the event had ended - it was good to catch up with him, involve myself in a community activity and of course share it online. As it happened, I only had the 17-70mm Contemporary on my camera, (but was adequate and Tom has only the Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8 himself) but at least I had that camera and if Tom hadn't been there, I could easily have done his job for him. So, it does pay to always have your 'proper' camera with you!

A good record of the event, Tim, which very well illustrates what was going on and the expressions on faces reflect personal reactions to the occasion.

Hope you had a good time at the cinema! An early night for me - enjoy tomorrow's journey of adventure!

Claudio, indeed, thanks!

Ann - I had to quickly write this up and get down to the local Tescos (with all the post pub drunks stocking up) as I don't want to get supplies needed for the train (that has no refreshments whatsoever!) in the morning. I had quickly seen your night shot but have only just been able to comment on it.

The film was good and my friends enjoyed it too - and refused me trying to them pay back for the pre-bought ticket - but at a whopping £12, I was rather glad they wouldn't, if I'm really honest! So, yes a most pleasant way to spend a miserable wet evening in January.
