L'evoluzione della specie...!!!Per dare vita al Progetto Apollo, l'industria americana affrontò uno sforzo enorme in termini di uomini e risorse, superando incognite e affrontando nuove sfide tecnologiche necessarie a sviluppare non solo i mezzi, ma anche la tuta spaziale che avrebbe permesso all'uomo di calcare il suolo lunare. La Hamilton Standard fu incaricata dalla NASA di supervisionare l'integrazione del sistema tuta-supporto vitale mentre la International Latex Corporation come subcontractor ricevette l'incarico di realizzare la tuta pressurizzata vera e propria. Lo studio degli apparati pressurizzati ebbe inizio fin dal 1962 e culminò nel 1968 con la produzione della prima tuta per il progetto Apollo denominata A7L. Lo sviluppo di questo apparato conobbe alti e bassi durante gli anni di progettazione e testing. Dopo l'incidente di Apollo 1 nel Gennaio del 1967 in cui persero la vita Virgil I. Grissom, Edward H. White e Roger B. Chaffee la NASA fu costretta a rivedere i propri progetti relativi agli apparati pressurizzati eliminando le tute del blocco 1 ed incorporando in un solo apparato le specifiche progettuali richieste per gli apparati del Blocco II e del Blocco III. Ogni astronauta disponeva di 3 tute realizzate su misura, una per la missione, una per l'addestramento e una di backup. Il peso complessivo dell'apparato si attestava sui 22 Kg. mentre il dispositivo di supporto vitale (PLSS) ne pesava ben 26. La versione modificata A7LB fu pensata per le missioni a lunga durata Apollo “J” , essa disponeva di alcune migliorie che ne aumentavano la mobilità e le performances generali in previsione delle lunghe escursioni lunari da Apollo 15 in avanti. La A7LB fu modificata con l'aggiunta di ulteriore strato di protezione contro il calore ed impiegata nelle missioni Skylab. In questo collage che ho realizzato si parte dal modello RX-2 del 1963, per passare al 1967, poi al 1969,fino ad arrivare al modello del 1971 usato da Alan Shepard sull'Apollo 14...
