Hello Hans. This photo was taken in Sardinia a month ago in the Cabras area where the osprey winters as in other parts of Sardinia. I saw 5 subjects (4 males and one female). They arrive each year in mid-October and remain until March. They are however also present in other parts of Italy.

Ciao Hans. Questa foto è stata scattata in Sardegna un mese fa nella zona di Cabras dove il falco pescatore sverna come in altre parti della Sardegna. Io ho visto 5 soggetti ( 4 maschi ed una femmina ). Arrivano ogni anno alla metà di ottobre e restano fino a marzo . Sono comunque presenti anche in altre parti d'Italia.

Thank you very much for your clear explanation! I've learned something new since I wasn't aware of these Ospreys spending the winter in Sardinia and elsewhere in Italy. It reminds me of the Marsh Harrier (Falco di palude). Though originally a migratory species that winters in Africa, it also tends to spend the winter months in Southern Europe (small numbers even stay in the Netherlands!)
