Immersa tra le montagne a soli 20 chilometri da Trento, la Valle dei Mòcheni è nota per essere un'isola linguistica di origine tedesca, ma rimane nel cuore per lo straordinario scenario dell'alternarsi dei colori della natura. STORIOGRAFIA. Verso il 1400 si vennero a formare le prime comunità stabili. Si trattava di coloni tedeschi provenienti per lo più da Baviera e Boemia. Da un'occupazione prevalentemente agricola, boschiva e pastorale, si passò allo sfruttamento dei ricchi giacimenti di ferro, rame ed argento. Questa risorsa determinò tra il 1400 e il 1500 l'arrivo di atri lavoratori tedeschi, che per la loro occupazione in miniera furono chiamati “Canopi”. Rimasero per lungo tempo nella valle, pur non integrandosi con le comunità locali. Con il passare dei secoli le miniere si esaurirono e la gente tornò alle primitive attività, ovvero l'agricoltura, l'allevamento, la caccia e la pesca. Unico supporto era il piccolo commercio ambulante, praticato solo dagli uomini nei mesi invernali, consistente nella vendita di tessuti e piccoli oggetti, praticato soprattutto nelle campagne tirolesi, austriache, bavaresi e boeme.
