Porte des Allemands, open along the medieval walls, is the most important vestiges of the old the city walls, and an extraordinary example of medieval fortification. It owes its name to the Knights of the Teutonic or also called "frères hospitaliers de Notre-Dame-des-Allemands", who had founded there a hospital in the vicinity, which was destroyed by Charles V during the siege of 1552. It consists of a double door and fortified by a bridge over the river Seille. It was built starting in 1230 starting with the gateway to the city, arch arched bolted between two semi-circular towers. In 1445 it was decided to strengthen the defense of the bridge with the addition of another door, into the countryside, closed between two strong towers.

I passed by the town but by day, just a few hours for a walk; I see that the place deserves a night rest; compliments ;-)

Well ... Metz hit me unexpectedly, all. In the sense, it had to be a simple stop of the established European trip and instead I found myself wandering all the afternoon, evening and late evening for the streets and various areas of the city! Really beautiful ... and in the evening, as you said, deserves a lot :-P
Thank you for your compliments ;-)
