La festa più antica di origine precristiana e più sentita ad Orgosolo (NU) è il Ferragosto, che segna la chiusura della stagione agricola passata e l'inizio di quella nuova. In questo giorno viene festeggiata la Beata Vergine Assunta, Nostra Sennora de Mesaustu, presso la chiesa di S'Assunta del 1634, situata in uno dei rioni del paese. Al suo interno è custodita un'antica immagine della Beata Vergine. Nella serata del 15 agosto dopo la messa solenne, la statua della Madonna dopo la vestizione viene portata in processione, seguita dalle donne e gli uomini vestiti con l'abito tradizionale orgosolese, da numerosi cavalieri (Sos Vardieris) e dai tanti fedeli.
