LA MINIERA ABBANDONATA La miniera ha una storia millenaria e il fiume dal colore rosso che attraversa le montagne ricche di ferro e di rame sembra rappresentare la storia di Minas de Riotinto, una storia fatta di fatica e di passione, di rabbia e di ribellione, bagnata dal sangue dei lavoratori che in quelle miniere a cielo aperto hanno lasciato la salute e che a decine e decine sono stati trucidati, nel 1888, nel corso di una grande manifestazione popolare organizzata per chiedere migliori condizioni di vita. Quel 1888 è così diventato una tappa fondamentale nella storia del movimento operaio in quanto rappresenta il primo momento in Europa in cui le forze dell'ordine spararono contro lavoratori e loro familiari che chiedevano migliori condizioni di vita. Nel 2001 la miniera è stata chiusa definitivamente
