Abbazia di San Michele di Lamoli È una delle più illustri abbazie della Massa Trabaria, sorta su uno sperone di fondovalle sul fiume Meta, lungo una strada che controllava il principale accesso all'alta valle del Tevere dall'Adriatico. È abbazia benedettina fondata parallelamente a quella di Scalocchio forse nel sec. VII.oggi restano in piedi, restaurati, la chiesa abbaziale a tre navate con la cripta, e la maggior parte del monastero, adattato a casa canonica e albergo. Nella chiesa preromanica sono raccolti frammenti di stucchi e di pietra anteriori al sec. IX. Aveva il privilegio del nullius diocesis, stretta com'era fra l'abbazia di Scalocchio, il Vescovo di Città di Castello e il nullius arcipretale di Mercatello e Sestino. Fino all'anno mille, gli sforzi dei monaci sono stati dedicati alla bonifica del territorio per renderlo adatto alla coltivazione e alla produzione di legname: dalla Massa trabaria proveniva il legname che, trasformato in travi, veniva trasportato a Roma sul Tevere da Sansepolcro. Ma il monastero aveva anche funzioni di difesa. L'interno contiene diverse opere di pregio: un frammento di affresco, ora riportato nel quadro rappresentante il calvario, del '300, alcuni affreschi di Scuola umbra del '500 rappresentanti San Romualdo e San Giuliano, e un affresco del XV sec., una Madonna che allatta il Bambino. Inoltre una tempera su tavola a lunettone con Dio tra due angeli, del XV sec. Un Presepe di Scuola fiorentina del XV-XVI sec. E un Crocifiso ligneo del '400 noto come “Cristo spirante”.
