Purtroppo sono molto diffidenti e vederle da vicino è molto raro.
Quest'esemplare è particolare: è presente a Racconigi da qualche settimana ed è solitario.

Al contrario di come si comporta il grande stormo solitamente presente durante il periodo invernale, passa tutto il giorno in palude e talvolta assume dei comportamenti alquanto bizzarri. Inoltre capita con una certa frequenza che attacchi gli altri uccelli senza motivo apparente.
In pochissime occasioni è arrivato a distanza di "tiro", in genere se ne sta lontano dai punti in cui lo si può osservare, quel tanto che basta perchè non sia fotografabile nitidamnete.
