Un evento davvero eccezionale; la nascita di un cucciolo di Gazzella di Thompson. Per pochi minuti ho perso il parto. Stavo rientrando dopo aver assistito ad un crossing sul fiume Mara quando a bordo pista mi sono imbattuto in questa scena, manco a dirlo ero solo così che questo documento posso dire di averlo solo io. Solitamente partoriscono in luoghi nascosti per la protezione della madre e del cucciolo estremamente vulnerabili, in questo caso stranamente erano in uno spazio aperto con la madre possibile preda di felini e iene e il cucciolo anche di rapaci. La scena si è protratta per un quarto d'ora; la madre, dapprima intenta a pulire il cucciolo dalla placenta, lo ha invitato a reggersi sulle zampe e a muovere i primi passi. Goffamente il piccoletto, con parecchi ruzzoloni alla fine ce l'ha fatta. Se ne sono andati al sicuro nel bush. Non so se siano scampati, soprattutto il cucciolo da successive predazioni ma se così gli auguro davvero lunga vita. Un altro momento di gioia emozione e commozione che la savana africana mi ha regalato.
