L'interno rispecchia lo stile tardo barocco delle cappelle laterali. Una lapide murata nel primo pilastro a sinistra entrando informa che la chiesa, edificata nel secolo XII, parzialmente rinnovata nel 1674 e riconsacrata nel 1777, ebbe nel 1830 rifatta la facciata e, nel 1873, rielaborata e ampliata la zona absidale con l'aggiunta della cappella del Sacro Cuore. In poche righe è così tracciata una lunga storia, della cui antichità fa testo il campaniletto romanico in pietra, spartito da archetti, monofora e bifora e sopraelevato nel 1729 per far giungere il suono delle campane alla zona collinare che andava via via popolandosi. Il nome le venne dai protomartiri scoperti nel IV secolo da S. Ambrogio e diffuso poi ovunque nella sua immensa diocesi, mentre l'orientamento a levante deriva dal detto liturgico Ex Oriente lux. Ha pianta longitudinale con navata a botte, cantoria e quattro cappelle per lato, rese un po' frigide dalla decorazione a stucco apposta nel 1830, ma ornate di bei quadri (alcuni, si è scoperto, di valore artistico primario) e statue. Diciassette parroci vi si sono avvicendati dai primi del Seicento a oggi
